Halo 3: The Spectacle

January 6th, 2010

Recently while searching the Internet for information on the Halo 3 weapons cheats, I came across a number of what-if situations? What if Master Chief took on different famous characters from movies, comic books, and legends? Here is a list of some of these battles and my take on the outcome.

Although it is technically not a Halo 3 weapon cheat, the contest between Master Chief versus Robocop could be interesting. According to the information on the Internet both have a few similarities. They’re both human, they’ve both been enhanced, they both have amazing armour and they are both experienced fighters. Most voters thought that Master Chief would beat Robocop, but let’s face facts here, Master Chief can be put down with a pistol, whereas Robocop kept on going after being blown up at a fuel station. The victor has to be Robocop.

When Master Chief battles with the next fighter he would do well to have a Halo 3 weapon cheat. The next is MacGyver. Master Chief has a lot going for him. He is an expert with a variety of weapons; he has that amazing armour; he has some incredible vehicles at his disposal; he’s a Clint Eastwood type loner and he can regenerate himself. However, in short, MacGyver is brain over brawn. It would probably come down to the same considerations in a fight between Batman and Superman. If it’s a closed arena where it’s man versus man, Master Chief is going to win. But put this battle in the real world with Swiss army knives and duct tape at his disposal, and MacGyver’s going to murder our futuristic friend.

Up until now Master Chief is 2-0 down, and it’s starting to seem like he can really use a Halo 3 weapon cheat or two. But let’s give him another opponent. This time it’s going to be Master Chief versus the Terminator. We already know Master Chief’s strengths, the Terminator’s are an ability to master any weapon, relentless willpower, doesn’t get tired, amazing focus to destroy his target. It all comes down to the Spartan laser weapon. As one voter said, if Master Chief can destroy vehicles with this weapon he can certainly blow a pretty big hole in the Terminator too.

Let’s have another contest before Master Chief discovers his Halo 3 weapon cheat. How would he do against Boba Fett from Star Wars? The main differences between Master Chief and Boba Fett are that Boba has no shields, owns his own ship and has a jet pack.

Many people believe Star Wars wins this battle, but Master Chief’s weapons are far more powerful than those shown by the bounty hunter. This one makes it even at 2-2. Master Chief is 50-50.

So, those are the results. In this tiny poll that we read on the Internet, Master Chief is your average type of super hero, who is not guaranteed to win every contest, unless he finds his weapon cheats or the story writers want him to, that is.

When Did Halo 3 Come Out?

December 21st, 2009

On May 15, 2007 the news was published ” the Halo 3 release date would be September 25 in North America and the 26th in Europe. Halo 3 marked the third in a very popular series for the Xbox 360 called Halo. According to the vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business, Halo 3’s release was more than just a video game release, it was the biggest entertainment event of the year. He may just have been right.

The full history of Halo 3 really has to start with the release of the first game in the series ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’. In November, 2001, when Halo was first released, game consoles were somewhat of a joke as one-person shoot-em-up games. Yes, some games existed, but they didn’t have the popular communities that the PC games in the genre had.

That was all changed in Halo, in which players could battle aliens on foot and in vehicles, in order to complete objectives, while trying to unravel the secret of the Halo. Halo pioneered limiting the number of weapons a player could carry to two, which in turn, meant forcing the player to take strategic decisions in order to complete his missions.

People waited for the publication of Halo 3 with baited breath. They awaited the continuation of the one-person, shoot-em-up combat format that had been prevalent in the two previous parts of Halo. Microsoft calls it the ‘Golden Triangle of Halo’, which consists of gun-type weapons, grenades and others. In reality, this was nothing new to one-person, shoot-em-up games, as it had been around since the very first Doom and even the predecessor to that game, “Wolfenstein”.

So, with all of that history behind it, people were very excited over the Halo 3 release date. How popular and welcome was the game? Well, before its release, 3.1 million copies were sold in advance orders and retailers thought that that was not enough.

The game took over $300 million gross in the United States in just the first seven days. Overall, it has sold over nine million copies worldwide and was the best-selling video game in the United States in 2007. Even the critics liked it, ranking it the seventh highest on the list of Xbox 360 all-time great games.

The Halo 3 release date, like the release date of many wildly popular video games was almost like a national holiday like Christmas or Easter. It leaves us with the question of just what will happen in the realm of video games in the near future?

Screenshots from Halo 3

December 21st, 2009

When a video game series is as wildly popular as the Halo set is (which includes Halo 3, of course) then the result is going to be thousands of screenshots available. This piece concentrates on some of the weird and wild Halo 3 screenshots.

Before mentioning the Halo 3 screenshots specifically, let’s take a look at the numbers that generate all of this media. Over 9 million copies of Halo 3 have been sold to date. That means that if each person who purchased the game plays for only 10 hours, there are more than 90 million hours of game time from which to choose screen shots. A lot can happen in 90 million hours, and with all the image-uploading websites available to people, a lot of it has been documented.

One of the things in Halo 3 that has frequently been documented in Halo 3 screenshots is what Master Chief looks like or more specifically, what his face looks like. If you use Google to look up the top 10 Halo 3 screenshots, you’ll find a screenshot of Master Chief lying dead on the ground, clearly not showing a face inside his helmet. This explains why we never see his face, say many players, because he does not actually have one.

Another of the Halo 3 screenshots featuring in the top 10 Halo 3 screenshots is that of a Marine getting hammered on a floodgate. Someone commented that it looks a little bit like Han Solo when he was frozen in Carbonite. And guess what? – they’re absolutely right.

The designers of Halo 3 wanted to make it much simpler for people to take Halo 3 screenshots and to post them all over the Internet. To accomplish this, they created a ‘Saved Films’ feature in the game. This feature permits players to slow down the action, or even to freeze it, change the camera position and even move the camera around to get exactly the screenshot they want to have. Generally speaking, the ‘Save Films’ feature records all the action that occurs in the game, so it can later be turned into videos are screenshots.

Yet another feature that has a little bit to do with Halo 3 screenshots in the ‘Save Films’ feature, is the watching of previously saved films. You see, the saves are not just images or video, they’re actual game data. This means two things: A] the file size is pretty small and B] the entire game can be watched from various angles on the Xbox 360.

That means that a person could watch a game again and again, finding new things in new places every time they look at it. That’s a great deal better than simple Halo 3 screenshots.

What is a Halo 3 Mod?

December 21st, 2009

Generally, a Halo 3 mod is thought of as any software modification that changes the game play in the very popular video game for the Xbox 360, Halo 3. But the term also encompasses several other modifications, such as hardware alterations made to the Xbox 360 console to show everybody that you are truly a Halo 3 fanatic.

However, before anyone can create a Halo 3 mod, they need the proper tools, along with some technical expertise and knowledge. These tools would generally includes a number of pieces of software that allow people to de-construct, edit, and reconstruct Halo 3 files. It would also involve some hardware to allow the Xbox 360 hard drive to be uploaded into a PC and the files to be restored to that hard drive.

This is necessary because the Xbox 360 is not a platform on which files can be altered. In the past, the hardware developers, in this case Microsoft, would make the tools available to people who paid the licensing fee. But over time, especially with Halo 3 mods, the community has developed several tools and techniques to accomplish what needs to be done for modification.

A Halo 3 mod also includes, as stated earlier, physical alterations to the Xbox 360 console itself. For instance, some people might remove the casing and actually cut the words ‘Halo 3′ out of it. They might also accompany this by painting the console red, blue or green to match the colour of the armour of their favourite characters in the game.

However, it’s a rather extreme way to say to the world – I like Halo 3 – because it could cause actual damage that renders the Xbox 360 unplayable. People often display their customized Xbox 360s on photo-sharing sites such as Flickr and when they go toattend live LAN events.

One of the things that people who are interested in the world of the Halo 3 mod try to focus on is that the mods should not be created for the purpose of cheating. Modifications are fun to get a new twist on Halo 3 play or a new look for certain levels. But if they’re used to make the game unfair in favour of one person or team, they ruin the overall game experience for everyone.

One website where a person can find many a Halo 3 mod is H3mod.com. The site calls itself the ‘future of Halo modding’. It seems like a good place to begin if you want to learn about a Halo 3 mod.

Halo 3 Free Trial

October 16th, 2009

The release of Halo 3 was wildly awaited, as the video was the third in the original trilogy of the Halo games. Therefore, the Halo 3 trial download was one of the most downloaded game demos in the history of the Xbox 360. What many people don’t remember is that the Halo 3 trial download helped make another game – Crackdown.

What does the Halo 3 demo download have to do with any another video game? Well, it has a great deal to do with the distribution and marketing work for a game that was originally planned for release on the Xbox system. Microsoft had become concerned that Crackdown wouldn’t sell a lot.

And so they used a marketing gimmick, the one of bundling Crackdown with an access code for the Halo 3 trial download. And it worked a treat because Crackdown sold 1.5 million copies within the first six months of its release. Those aren’t Halo 3 figures, which sold 8.1 million units in slightly over a year, but for a lesser well-known game that’s absolutely fantastic.

Microsoft had turned to the Halo 3 trial download tactic because of adverse opinions about the game from the play testers. They thought the unusual nature of the game confusing, often leaving them wondering what they were supposed to be doing next.

As a result of this, the powers that be knew that something had to be done or the game would be a loser. It may seem shady practice at first to try to force sales of a game that’s expected to be unpopular, but in hindsight people love the game and it was a good thing that they were able to get the chance to play it.

In Crackdown, and that includes the one bundled with the Halo 3 trial download, individuals play the role of an agent who is assigned to defeat the kingpins or leaders of various gangs. To do this they use some superhuman powers such as super strength and super fitness. In order to obtain these powers, players have to accumulate experience by beating foes who then release experience orbs. The interesting idea in the system was that the kind of orbs released was reliant on the method in which the agent killed the enemy. For instance, a firearms orb appears if the enemy was killed with a gun.

So, although at first sight this game bundled with the Halo 3 trail download seems to be no more than a veiled marketing trick, in fact, it exposed gamers to a fascinating new gameplay world.
